The Northwest is a land known for it's rolling hills and sweeping vistas and is broken up into two divisions; the first is La Tierra, and the other is Las Campanas. The added benefit is Santa Fe is just a short trip away from La Tierra for local attractions and day vacations that makes for great family outings any time of day. La Tierra is made up of a number of smaller subdivisions, including Los Suenos, Salva Tierra, Tano, La Serena, Tierra Preciosa, and Tierra de Oro. La Tierra area also contains some of the most lavish and exclusive real estate in the area including the community of Aldea de Santa Fe. Most property lots in La Tierra start at one acre and go up to 20 or more acres.
Most of the homes you will find in La Tierra is typical of the style Santa Fe is know for. An example would be the historic ranch-style homes in this area with thick walls, pitched metal roofs, and deep portals. You can definitely get that "country" feel here with the relatively large spaces of land and wide spacing of homes.
La Tierra is home for some spectacular views of gently rolling hills and wide sweeping vistas. Breathtaking scenery is bountiful here including the nearby Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Being one of the longest mountain chains on Earth and having ten peaks over 14,000' high in the range, they stretch from Poncha Pass, Colorado to Glorieta Pass, New Mexico.
One of the most notable communities in La Tierra is the more recently constructed Aldea de Santa Fe. This community is inspired by a movement known as New Urbanism which is a design philosophy that promotes new-home development with traditional features like, backyard garages, prominent front porches, nearby multi-use community buildings, and neighborhoods clustered near town centers, markets and service areas. This design allows for planned community growth that minimizes negative impact to the surrounding environment.
Aldea is a Spanish word that means 'small village' and describes this modern residential community to a 'T'. Here, the village is based on traditional Spanish Colonial towns with homes are gathered about a central plaza. This plaza is designed to be a town center for shopping, dining and entertainment within walking distance of the residences. It is also the ideal meeting place for residents to chat over a cup of coffee, or leisurely walk along the sidewalk while exchanging ideas.
Aldea is both old and new in a highly intelligent and respectful way. The idea is to recreate the charm of the Historic Eastside of Santa Fe, but with new building materials, high-speed fiber optic communications, and more thought going into the road planning and the sidewalks and the trail systems.
The founders of Aldea debated at great lengths whether an actual community, in the sense of the word, can be constructed or if it was something that emerges as it grows. After much consideration, it was realized that by constructing a place, community is given an opportunity to occur. A village with a central plaza surrounded by parks and other gathering spaces. Homes that thoughtfully create a sense of neighborhood. Pedestrian-friendly streets balanced with planned destination retail and gallery spaces. In short, community and harmony with autonomy and sustainability. Aldea makes where we live livable.
